Welcome to Writers Block! We are a group of largely amateur writers who aim to help each other improve our craft. We are based in the South Bay. Most Sundays, we meet in person and discuss writing. We are a welcoming and inclusive group. Bigotry and abuse of your fellow writers will not be tolerated.
General
We meet Sundays at 2pm in the Race Street Crema.
We generally communicate via Discord.
See what we're planning for our next session here.
If you plan on attending, please sign up on our Meetup.
Session Types
We run a variety of different types of in person sessions.
Submission Review
We review pieces members have submitted for review. We discuss and give feedback on their work. This is our most common session type. Submissions are generally reviewed in the order they were submitted.
Writers who submit their work for review reserve all rights. Do not share their work with anyone without explicit permission. This includes submitting their work to any AI for any purpose.
Written submissions must be your own work or have the written permission of the original author. Fan fiction is allowed but must credit the original work. AI must not be primarily responsible for your submission.
Silent Scribing
Bring your writing implement of choice and get some writing done. We will chat a little, set a timer for some quiet writing time, and repeat.
Prompt
In advance, we will give everyone a writing prompt. Everyone will write a short piece based upon it and share.
Workshop
We will do some sort of in person writing exercise.
Content Warnings
We believe that writing and all other forms of art should be able to examine all aspects of society, even its darker parts. We also believe in giving each other the option to avoid certain topics that may cause us pain. These topics are called out in the submission form. Certain topics require a brief explanation (marked with an asterisk).
